KIVALINA
is currently
the home of four Siberian
Huskies,
two Polish Lowland Sheepdogs.
As a breeder
of quality Siberian Huskies for over 35 years, I am committed to
exhibiting and breeding dogs that adhere to the AKC standard of
the breed without sacrificing the original type and function.
My belief is that the heritage of the breed should be revered
and the future of the breed should be protected through ethical
breeding practices.
All breeding
animals are ACVO eye checked clear of hereditary eye
abnormalities and OFA certified clear of hip dysplasia.
Temperament is of utmost importance!
Kivalina was established on the West
coast in 1972 with the purchase of my first show quality
Siberian Husky, Tandara's Black Russian. Shan was primarily
Martha Lake/Bow Lake background. At that time I also obtained a
bitch from Lila Weir of Lila's (formerly Joli's) Siberians and
Samoyeds, Lila's Kita Kivalina, a Ch. Baltic Pacesetter
daughter. I was very fortunate to have both Lynne Patterson of
Tandara and Lila Weir of Joli as my first mentors in the
breed.
With progressive moves back to the
Midwest, I began to incorporate
Innisfree and Karnovanda lines. It is these two
kennels that have formed the background for Kivalina today.
I am a member of
the Siberian
Husky Club of America

With a
relatively small number of dogs and a limited breeding
program, Kivalina has bred or co-bred over 60 champions,
including group winners, group placers and specialty
winners. |

All Kivalina Siberians are
OFA cleared good or excellent and ACVO eye checked clear.
Temperament is of utmost importance in my breeding program.
All pet puppies are sold on a spay/neuter contract and on AKC
limited registration. To read more about health problems in
the Siberian Husky check the

Your Siberian Husky, It's Hips and Eyes
When browsing through the
MANY Siberian Husky and Polish Lowland Sheepdog sites on the
internet, please be aware of the many, many so called
"breeders" who are producing puppies with no concern for the
health and well being of the dog.
I would like to point out a few of
the responsibilities of a reputable RESPONSIBLE breeder.
A RESPONSIBLE breeder does
not breed dogs under two years of age.
A RESPONSIBLE breeder does
the necessary health screenings such as OFA (Orthopedic
Foundation for Animals) and ACVO (American College of Veterinary
Opthamologists) or CERF (Canine Eye Research Foundation) eye
exams to insure that the breeding stock is free from hip
dysplasia and hereditary eye disorders such as Juvenile
Cataracts, Corneal Dystrophy and Progressive Retinal Atrophy.
A RESPONSIBLE breeder
proudly lists this information on their website.
A RESPONSIBLE breeder follows
the breed standard in regard to the proper coat type, overall
structure, size, etc.
A RESPONSIBLE breeder does
not breed for specific coat or eye color to satisfy the demands
of a pet market.
A RESPONSIBLE breeder breeds
to improve the breed and proves his breeding stock in
performance events such as AKC conformation shows, AKC obedience
trials and working degrees such as Sled Dog titles.
A RESPONSIBLE breeder
sells pet puppies with a spay/neuter contract and on an AKC
limited registration.
A RESPONSIBLE breeder does
not add to the ever growing numbers of abandoned Siberian
Huskies and then hide behind the claim of being a rescue
organization.
To find a RESPONSIBLE breeder
check the
SIBERIAN HUSKY CLUB OF AMERICA
website .
Don't pad the egos and pocketbooks
of puppy mills and so called breeders.
Be an educated consumer and
an informed puppy buyer. Help to PROTECT our breed, not DESTROY
it.
Please feel free to contact me for a referral to a
responsible breeder.
