THE AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB  -  AKC

Established in 1884, the American Kennel Club is the oldest registering body for purebred dogs in the United States.  The History of the AKC is chronicled on their website and extends from the first meeting of twelve dedicated sportsmen in Philadelphia through the establishment of the dog show structure that is currently in use today, the introduction of the GAZETTE, the official publication of the AKC, the founding of the AKC MUSEUM OF THE DOG, and the implementation of modern technology with the use of DNA testing to insure the integrity of the breeding stock registered with the AKC.

The AKC website located at www.akc.org has a wealth of information, geared not only to the novice pet owner looking for guidance in the purchase of their first purebred dog but also offering entertaining and educating articles and features.  Be sure to visit the AKC site, you'll be glad that you did.
