Baby Killdeer hatch in the summer and normally stay in the shell two weeks longer than other species. They are precocial (Latin for "ripened") and are hatched with eyes open, feather covered and on the move! They cannot fly and depend on the adults to protect them. |

Broken Wing trick - Killdeer will fake a broken wing to lead you or small threats away from the chicks. Once far enough away the killdeer will suddenly heal and fly off! |
